When the author gets “dark and tormented” right, the end result is very nice indeed.
This one is lighter than the author’s previous books, but the real problems here are the pacing and the heroine.
The author contrives to place the heroine in a position of weakness here, and that’s unfortunate.
The author goes overboard with the hero’s cruelty and the heroine’s “understanding” nature. So here’s my one oogie to the two of them.
Now that Anne Stuart has lost her mojo, maybe newcomer Lydia Joyce can step up to the plate.
