I’m lost. I really am. Magic and Mist is the conclusion of Theresa Michaels’s The Clan Gunn trilogy, and no, I haven’t read the earlier two books. I’m pretty sure the story of Davey Gunn and Meredith of Cambria go way back to at least book two, because by page one I feel as if I’ve just crashed face down into the wedding cake of a party I am not invited to.

The way I understand it, Davey and Meredith are dreammates. Soulmates. Or something. He has been dreaming/seeing Meredith and decides to pack up to see her. He owes her a favor, apparently, because Meredith then asks him to kill her enemy. He is repulsed, but agrees, and they both go on a road trip to find this enemy. And there’s something about Meredith not allowed to have sex with Davey… or something.

Sorry, but I did try my best. Thing is, the author makes Meredith answer Dave’s questions in vague non-answers, and it’s frustrating, because I have no idea what the heck is going on. What is Meredith doing, seriously? And what exactly did these two see in each other? They keep going on and on about trust and obligations, but no one is actually talking to each other and answering pertinent questions.

Well, I know when I’m not welcome. I’ll just close this book and go seek stories that actually don’t assume that I follow every work of this author religiously.
