Paranormal Romance, 2015
Kristy and Drew Stone, the couple from Inheriting Evergreen, have settled down into a happy life of domesticity, and Kristy has turned her aunt’s home into a B&B. The thing is, that place is haunted. Several guests believed so as they left the B&B in a hurry, and news of the possibly haunted place soon reaches two ghost hunters, Justin Marino and the host of a paranormal haunting TV show, Lisa Ryan. Those two need to find a way to get into the guest list, and along the way, they may find romance where they least expect it to happen.
Compared to the previous loosely related short story, Haunting Evergreen is a disappointing because it could be so much more, only it just couldn’t due to some awkward pacing. The author spends a lot of time having Justin and Lisa making grouchy faces at one another, and the “romance” is introduced and wrapped up in a rushed and abrupt manner within the last few pages of this story. I’m not joking.
Things could be better if the author had cut down on the whole sour faces for everything thing and spend a bit more time having the characters explore the B&B and their feelings for each other. Or, perhaps, have this story be the first part of a serial with more episodes to come. The rushed and abrupt conclusion is a mood killer in every way, and I can only wonder at how this story could have been if things had turned out differently.
