Fantasy Romance, 2006

Dragon’s Mate is about – what else? – shapeshifting dragons running wild because they want to have sex and they want to have it now. Our heroine, Maya, is the Primul Leader of the Born for Earth Dragon Clan. For thirty days every hundred years, she goes into heat, which is her condition when this story begins. Maya is getting cozy in a hotel in Chile when Eric Dogori, Second to the Primul Leader of the Born for Water Dragon Clan, shows up and announces to her that she’s his mate. They do it, make some babies, and that’s pretty much all there is to this story. Needless to say, I have no idea who these people are, I have only a vague idea of the dragon clan politics, and I’m still scratching my head trying to think of what to say about this story in this review.

Perhaps there are people out there who are genuinely excited by the idea of dragons having sex – they probably live next door to those people who get a rush from the thought of centaurs shagging in the woods – and this story will excite those fans of anthropomorphic horny dragons everywhere. For me though, this story is too short to do much for me and definitely too short for me to say much about.

Except maybe one thing – the story should have ended by chapter three because the last sentence in that chapter would have closed the story beautifully. Chapter four is a waste of words as it only drives home unnecessarily the obvious about how the two dragons are happily procreating like nobody’s business.

Fans of this kind of stories, have at it. I’m off to read something else.
