I’m reading the version of Red Garnier’s Bona Fide Liar that was published by Ellora’s Cave. There’s a version out there by the author called Bonafide Liar, and I have no idea whether that version is a revised, expanded, prettified, glorified, shrunken, worse, or whatever edition… and honestly, I don’t care.

Just like the previous title by the author that I’ve last read, Bona Fide Liar attempts to pass off a truly horrid corporate male Karen as a bonafide sex symbol. Alex Callahan has been making our heroine Carly Sanders’s time in Yoodle, America’s top search engine (and yes, roll your eyes, people, because I did that too), not exactly ideal, let’s just say. Worse, she overhears him bragging about shagging her in the rest room, something that is definitely not true because Alex is so hot and hence Carly would have put out regardless of how crappy he treats her—this is the way of the romance heroine—and she didn’t, so that is a lie.

Instead of filing an official complaint or complaining on social media, she decides to go all /r/Prorevenge and put out to him in hopes of hurting him. Of course, he gets annoyed when he learns that she knows about his horrid lies, but that’s okay, he knows that she wants him bad, and she certainly does, because you know romance heroines. A guy may make her crawl through jagged glass to bark for scraps before him, but so long as he’s hot and makes her wet down there, it’s true love and hence, the guy is to haunt our dreams and make us dream of having our own hot male Karen spreading horrid slanders about us in the workplace.

Sorry, but I’m not buying this nonsense. There are many hot guys in the sea where this genre is concerned, anyway, and I see no reason why one has to settle for a giant steaming pile of turd like Alex. He’s a douchebag, she’s a moron, and I’m out of here.
