Windows is likely a finished but previously unaired episode from “the French era” of The Hitchhiker, because this one features an American artist, Jake, living in Paris with his girlfriend Sophie.
The aesthetics and lighting are all reminiscent of the episodes from that best-forgotten era, as well, which only strengthens my suspicion that this is indeed the case.
Tom is an asshole of a boyfriend, mocking Sophie for being more educated than him or trying to tidy up the place, and he also takes out on his frustrations at being a failed artist on her.
I’m not sure why she’s even with and still with him. Maybe this asshole aspect of him is the main appeal for her, as I know some people dig that asshole artist shtick, because they think that asshole is just being “creative”.
At any rate, Tom gets his muse from a constantly fighting couple in the apartment across from his, and the more violent they are, the happier he is. This soon affects his own perspective and possibly even sanity.
I’m sure the people behind this episode thinks that it is deep and thought-provoking, but what I see is a poorly acted thing that starts out slowly, only to then abruptly segue into random, disjointed scenes that make little sense when put together.
Then again, it’s hard to want to make sense of the episode in the first place, when everyone in it is an unlikable turnip that reads out loud their lines like they are in grade school learning how to read.
Boring story, poor acting, and random turns of events that are included for the sake of coming off as weird—Windows is an unpleasant and hopefully final epilogue to a super low point of this show that I really would prefer to forget.
