Samantha Hendricks goes to sleep, torn between wanting to grieve for the father she barely knew or giving the man the finger for dying and then leaving her with a treasure map, a bottle of whiskey, and a wanted poster for the outlaw cowboy Jesse Kincaid for reasons only the man would know. When she wakes up, however, she’s somehow right in the middle of the wilderness. Guess who comes upon her and therefore comes to her rescue. That’s right, Jesse Kincaid himself. Poor Samantha has no clue yet that she has somehow gone back in time to 1871, oh dear.

This one is almost quaintly old school in how it is a straightforward time travel that I don’t come across often nowadays. However, this one could use a greater degree of fleshing out too because for a full-length story, the setting still remains vague. Were not for the year 1871 being specified in this story, I have a hard time visualizing that it takes place in the 19th century. The characters are fine in the sense that they are decent and likable types that don’t go out of their way to do something stupid, but they could also be defined better. I never get a clear idea of who these characters are, especially when it comes to Samantha’s relationship with her late father.

This one is a serviceable read, but on the whole, the characters are vaguely in love and the details are just as vague. Wanted does leave me wanting.
