So, in The Friendly Type, we get confirmation that the whole drama is caused by beings called the Enneads, worshiped by the Egyptians of old as gods, behaving like a dysfunctional inbred family and using human proxies to extend their squabbles onto the mortal realm.

Spector and Grant—yes, they are the same guy, technically, but… let’s just say their relationship is complicated—try to pursue Harrow as the latter seek out the tomb of Ammit, to free the goddess that he claims will then make the world a better place. Spector’s wife Layla tags along, because these days, every show needs a strong woman to do all the high kicks and deliver the sassy one-liners.

Don’t worry, the avatars of the other gods will also show up, although whether they will aid or hinder Spector and Grant, well, that the good guys will have to figure out.

All this drama can be traced back to Khonshu, of course, and in a way, this whole show can be his past actions coming back to remind him that he too needs to pay the piper.

Well, the good news here is that the show seems to be coming together to take me somewhere, although I’m not sure whether the destination is going to anywhere fantastic. Still, there is plot advancement and things are starting to coalesce to give some kind of big picture, so that’s good.

However, poor Oscar Isaac is still spending the entire episode looking like a wide-eyed scared and confused goldfish. Layla is the character that gets to have more character development as the show progresses, but she’s sadly still on the generic goody-goody action heroine side and isn’t very interesting or memorable as of now.

As for Ethan Hawke, well, I hope he buys nice things with his paycheck because he is wasted on this show.

Then there is the odd case of the Moon Knight showing up only very briefly in every single episode. I suppose this show must have been done on super cheap, and the costume CGI costs more than these people would like to spend on. This however leads to this conundrum of this show never having a distinct or recognizable super hero identity. It’s barely a super hero show at this point, come to think of it; it’s more of the story of a generic action heroine and a bloke that has a confused look on his face all the time.

So far Moon Knight seems to be going somewhere, but it’s still stuck in a dreary and not-very-interesting part of meh territory for now.
