Aww, the final episode of Hooten & the Lady is here, and it takes us to The Caribbean—Old Providence Island, to be exact.
This time, the twosome are looking for, ooh, the long lost treasure cask of the privateer Captain Henry Morgan. He wants it because of the money it can bring him, while she’s all about history, blah blah blah, and she’s peeved that he used the museum money to fly over there for something that he has no intention of handing over to the museum.
Because of their irreconcilable differences, they decide to look for it on their own. This can be tricky, as each of them has only one half of the map.
Still, he will prove that he’s good at solving puzzles too, and she’ll show him that she’s got brawn as well as brain!
Meanwhile, Alex’s mother is pitching a fit at poor Edward, because he and Alex are to be married in days, and Alex is nowhere to be seen for the wedding preparations. Hilariously, the adorable Edward is standing up against his future mother-in-law for once, as he’s all about letting Alex be a woman in charge of her destiny and what not. He decides he’d go head over to Old Providence Island too.
The Caribbean is one of those few episodes on this show that manage to have the perfect balance of adventure and interpersonal drama, and hence, it’s an adorable sendoff for an otherwise uneven show.
If anything, the episode only reinforces that Hooten and Alex really need one another to be the perfect Indiana Jones or Lara Croft type, and it’s especially nice that their dynamic for once isn’t muddled by romantic interest.
In many ways, Edward is perfect for Alex, as in this episode he demonstrates that he’s not a doormat as much as a man that understands the drive in Alex; if anything, I can only hope that Alex can be as fair to him as he seems to be to her. The guy stands up to her controlling mother on her behalf, and even urges her to rebel against that woman. No wonder Hooten seems threatened by him, heh.
At any rate, there is comedy that doesn’t make the episode become too silly, enough adventure to keep things interesting, and various entertaining secondary characters to keep the episode interesting. It’s a shame that there will never be another follow-up season, because Hooten and the Lady is finally coming together well when the curtains fall on these two.
Dang, I think I’ll miss them now that the show has finally ended for good.
