Head Counselor Bill Magreet considers “fun” to be a four-lettered word. That’s what he screams at his charges, for as far as he’s concerned, his job is to make or break them into responsible adults. I don’t know what the kids are expecting, though, as the name of the camp is Camp Rock Bottom.
Petey, Scabs, Itchy, 6X, and Croaker beg to differ, however. They are going to make the camp theirs!
Well, this episode is noteworthy in that the ending bookend sequence sees the Crypt Keeper being raped by a sentient sleeping bag. Well, that’s what it seems like to me, but I have a brain that is in the gutter sometimes, and I take my amusement from wherever I can get it.
The problem with Grounds for Horror, aside from the fact that it doesn’t really have much horror going it unless I count Andrew Sabiston’s constant shouting, is that it is so stuffed with filler moments that it may as well be a scarecrow made to look like the Crypt Keeper. Two-thirds of the episode see the Head Counselor putting the kids through what seems like… a pretty nice boot camp, actually, as he’s making them work out, eat proper food, and all. The only problem is that he doesn’t let them have fun, and as far as kids go, I suppose that is the biggest crime of them all.
Oh yes, the constant shouting. I end up both fearing for my ear drums and Andrew Sabiston’s throat, because I am pretty sure that one or both of them will give out before this episode comes to an end. Maybe it’s a kiddie cartoon thing, but it sure seems like at least one character in every episode of this show has to be the loud, obnoxious one.
At any rate, this is a very forgettable and meh episode. The Crypt Keeper getting violated by a sleeping bag may be amusing for three seconds, but that’s about it.
Kids, just go watch the adult version of this show, alright?
