Fantasy Romance, 2012
Covet is indeed the word of the day, as our Javier wants Lilah. Alas, he’s a vampire, and she’s a mortal that is owned by the powerful vampire Lord Ashville. Vampires are not supposed to covet thy better’s properties, so our hero has to brood and look with yearning from afar as Lilah works as a servant at Vampirerotique, the X-rated showplace that Javier owns with his buddies Buy My Book Next and Buy My Book Too.
Luckily, Lilah wants to be free of the vampire that forcibly bonded her to him, so she’s receptive to Javier’s imminent staking of her… property.
This one is marketed as a romance, but if you ask me, this one is better treated as a work of erotica.
Plot? What plot? Sure, there are lots of twists and turns, and flips and spreads as well actually, but the story isn’t the main priority here. The two main characters are barely developed, and their romance is a shag-till-the-end bonk-a-thon passed off as one.
For a story marketed as a tale of forbidden love and lust, it sure doesn’t offer much sexual tension and pathos. This is because, despite the premise stating that there is much standing between Javier and Lilah that they can only yearn for one another and never could touch, by the third chapter these two are getting in on, and they are still on and on and on and on all the way to the bitter end of this story. File this one under “The marketing material says one thing, the story is definitely a different thing!”, indeed.
Still, this is an okay read for folks that know and want they are getting here. Me, though, I find the sex scenes to be on the vanilla and even tame side despite the length and frequency of these scenes. Maybe I’ve read too many naughty stories for my own good, but as a naughty romp, this one is tad on the ho-hum side where I’m concerned.
So yes, that’s it for today. I don’t have much to say about this one, because take away the sex scenes, and there’s not much left to savor.
