Contemporary Romance, 2007
I don’t know about you, but any romance featuring a reunion with a deadbeat boyfriend who went AWOL on family responsibilities for fifteen years is going to a hard sell where I am concerned, unless the love affair is between this man’s testicles and a pair of rusty scissors.
And that’s the problem with Broken Road. Grace Lee Riggs were left to raise the child she had with Keith Logan when the man decided to run off to chase after fame, wealth, and groupies. He knows he has a daughter but all this time he never called or did anything, having only some card prepared by someone else sent to the daughter on her birthdays. And yet, he shows up here one day and he and Grace are already having sex before I can blink and the next thing I know, they are one big happy family. “What – THE – HELL?” doesn’t even halfway cover my reaction to this story.
I’m not buying this story at all. Stories like this one need more than this short length in order to become even halfway believable. Maybe we’ll meet again when the author has something longer to offer. I like her prose, but this story really doesn’t do it for me. Sorry, dear.
