The Witness has a simple story: a stripper, no name given, witnesses a man in the apartment across the street doing something loud and violent. It turns out that the man, also no name given, has just murdered a woman that is a dead ringer for that stripper. So she flees, he gives chase… and what will happen next?

Written and directed by Alberto Mielgo, this episode ticks off all the items on the list of what makes an edgy cyberbunk episode. Nudity, check. A completely unnecessary futuristic night club scene with edgy fashion sense, genderfluid characters, and said nudity, check. Complete style over substance, check.

Why is the woman running in the first place? She doesn’t get to see the man kill anyone, and even if she suspected that he did something really bad, running out in the streets when he can then pursue her, and then only calling the cops all feel like stupidity in motion. She doesn’t thinking about getting help until late in the episode, and the fellow she approaches is conveniently stoned out of their mind.

The whole thing is like a teaser for a new character reveal for Overwatch or Valorant, only with nudity and blood, without any actual substance. To top it all off, the twist at the end is an unoriginal one that has been utilized many times before in sci-fi things.

Come for the visuals, and go away feeling vaguely unsatisfied.
