Does anyone remember Dr Penn Pershing? You know, the reedy scientist that was supposed to experiment on Baby, and instead was spared by Mandy because he was kind of Baby?

Well, if you’ve forgotten, that’s okay, because he’s back by popular demand. What? Someone must have demanded his return, right?

Anyway, he’s now a reformed guy under the Amnesty Program in Coruscant, but sadly for him, he believes that he’s forming something good with a fellow ex-employee of Moff Gideon, Elia Kane, until she sets him up for reasons that I’m sure will be linked back to his ex-boss somehow. A part of me hopes that she is working under the orders of Bo-Katty, though. Anything else will be tad too predictable.

This is the bulk of The Convert, which can refer to either him, Bo-Katty, maybe both. I may think harder about this if I can be arsed. Sadly, I can’t.

Oh yes, Mandy and Bo-Katty leave Mandalore, get attacked by Imperial TIE interceptors, and waste some filler time until they get back to Mandy’s folks. He gets his official tin can status back, and Bo-Katty gets a chance to convert from neutral bitter to lawful doofus. She’s like, whatever, can we have a plot now?

To be fair, it looks like something is being set up with the whole Dr Pershing thing, especially since he and Elia Kane make up the bulk of this episode with Mandy and Bo-Katty playing scene fillers this time around. The New Republic is seen to be paranoid and resorting to Gestapo-like measures to weed out perceived traitors and impious citizens.

Still, at this stage it’s too early to gauge whether that one will take me to some place good, of course, and I can only hope that there will be some interesting, entertaining payoff in the coming episodes.

Heaven knows, so far this season hasn’t delivered on anything hinted at by the end of the second season.

Bo-Katty fighting Mando for the claim of leadership or something? Well, the two of them seem to have forgotten that arc, and her team have abandoned her, so that one seems dead on water.

Baby is back… and so far serves no purpose, so his continuous presence on the show only cheapens the emotional impact that led to Mandy taking off his helmet in the first place.

Baby and Luke? That arc seems to have been abandoned as well.

Whatever they have in store, I hope it’d be fun—or at least, more fun that what I’ve got so far. Three episodes in and it looks like the party is finally happening, so by the light, let’s make it a good one!
