Main cast: Daniela Rendon (Lili), Antonio DeCoppi (Mike), Dave Walpole (The Security System Guy), Josh Stone (Dr Campbell), and Ariel Gerard (Officer Wilson)
Director: Ethan Evans
Lili lives alone in a big house, so it’s perhaps not too surprising that she finds herself in a scene reminiscent of that of the first victim in the opening scene of those Scream movies.
Fortunately, the only dead person is Mike, the guy across the street, whose corpse is left outside Lili’s door.
Still, our gal is a proactive person, so she has a top-notch security system installed and brings in Max, a doberman, to avoid another repeat of her harrowing ordeal.
Unfortunately, Max quickly chokes on something and has to be sent to the vet, leaving Lili all alone.
Now, this episode is called The Choking Doberman, and the story goes that the doberman has bitten off a few fingers from an intruder in the house, which is why it is choking.
While the intruder in the urban legend bleeds out, that will be anticlimactic way for the episode to end. So, this one will have some dramatic confrontation between Lili and the intruder.
This episode is okay, although it suffers from the same issue as the other previous episodes of this show: it’s pretty predictable if one happened to be familiar with the urban legend the episode is based on. This one is pretty faithful to the urban legend in that there is indeed an intruder in the house, so that’s not much of a surprise there.
Even when it deviates from the urban legend, the episode still feels like it’s made up of scenes from past thrillers and slasher films, and it never feels fresh or remarkable as a result.
Still, it’s well paced and the lighting and cinematography all help to create a pretty suspenseful vibe. It may not be the most memorable episode, but in the context of Urban Legend, it’s one of the better ones.
It is also a pretty good PSA for people to keep a guard dog at home, I have to give it that!
