Howdy, folks! Meet Russell Drake, our very rich loverboy who has a thing for the homeboys. Unfortunately, the one time he got married, it was to a homegirl. Blame it on alcohol. Now that Monica is dancing away around the shiny pole in heaven to the orchestra of angels, Russ is left with their two-year old son Tyrell. Well, there’s also James Harris, the guy that Russ was smacking lips with until he went ahead and impregnated a woman. Now that Russ is back in town, can Justin Timberlake’s Sexy Back bring them back together?
Apart from the love scenes, this one could have easily been a sugar-sweet Walt Disney special. Everyone here is accepting of Russ and James, no, they expect and hope those two would get back together again. And indeed, given the short length of this story, it isn’t long before Russ is treating me with a scene of him playing with himself. That scene is so jarring to me because up until that point, everything is so sunny in Queer Pleasantville here.
There’s nothing particularly good or bad in Right Side of the Tracks. It’s a pleasant read, if a bit too sweet for me. If it’s longer, it may be able to make some kind of impact on me, but as it is, it’s just a sweet if rather forgettable story. If you like your gay romances short but sunny, I suspect that you may just be on the right track with this one.
