I finally notice in this episode how much extra pounds Jeremy Renner seems to be packing, and I don’t mean in hot and sexy places. Sure, I mean, why bother, right, when this is meant to be a show where his character is basically signing off the whole MCU, and there are so many nice foods to eat and taking it easy is always fun.

In fact, you can see the enthusiasm on his face through this episode, or rather, the entire Hawkeye so far.

Jeremy Renner is clearly missing his weed.

This is where it gets embarrassing: I think he actually looks extra hot with those extra pounds.

Also, he looks hot because Clint does look like a tired, beaten-up action hero here. He has this little patch on his forehead to show that he’s vulnerable, but when he needs to get it done, he’d get it done.

What is it with me finding previously meh actors much more attractive when they age? Does this mean that I too have a daddy complex? Can I be a sassy, one-dimensional MCU heroine then?

On the other hand, there are Kate and now Mini-Black Widow that look like they are just in costumes and pretending to be action heroes. They look too clean, too tidy, and they don’t even carry themselves like people that know how to kick ass. More like, they are suited up and then step back for the stunt doubles to do the real thing or awkwardly step back in to do some moves that they had just learned a few days ago.

I’m not sure how to describe what happens in this episode, because it’s a filler episode, a bridge from the past episode to the next episode. I can tell everyone that Vera Farmiga and Tony Dalton own this episode, but then again, considering how this episode—the entire show—is scripted and directed by people that call themselves funny ha-ha types, that’s not really surprising. I like looking at Jeremy Renner here, and Hailee Steinfeld is mostly shoved to the sidelines despite her character being her usual eye-rolling “Me! Me! ME!” self. As for Mini-Black Widow, who cares? I don’t. Sorry… not, really.

Anyway, there are two more episodes left, and the shills are saying I’d be bowled over by the next episode. What? Kate will come out of the closet and get a girlfriend? Clint reveals that he’s trans and will be transitioning? Given the state of MCU and Disney in general these days, I don’t expect the “dramatic reveal” will have anything to do with actual good storytelling.

Partners, Am I Right? Whatever, run along now.
