Sci-fi Romance, 2010

Melissa “Lucky” Chance is a nymphomaniac and a thief. John Ramius is the Butcher, accused of murdering 53 people. Of course, he says that they deserved to die. Both of them are sentenced to death by the court of Jupiter, but I’m sure you can guess that they will escape soon enough. This is more of Ramius’s story though as he has an enemy to kill. Chance is just for the ride because she’s horny and she wants it everywhere and anywhere. What? This is a short story, people. We need an excuse for those two to start porking ASAP, after all.

The plot is decent – nothing too spectacular, but hey, at least it’s a plot. On the other romance, the romance comes off more like another episode of Chance boinking some random hot guy. She finds him attractive even when she thinks that he’s an insane mass-murderer, so I’m not sure how much I buy a romance that is between an indiscriminate male tripod rider and the first hot guy she sees in a while.

And because the sex scenes aren’t many in number or long in length, Breaking Chance ends up a neither here nor there story. It’s not explicit enough to be considered a truly hot read in my opinion, but at the same time, the plot could have been developed better and the romance relies too much on the heroine wanting it bad to work. I like the fact that the author allows the heroine to show some moral ambiguity, but that’s about it, really. This short story ends too soon before it can make much of an impact on me.
