How interesting, that True Believer is a loose sequel to W.G.O.D.. Is this a first in this series? It’s a sequel only in the sense that Nolan’s voice plays over the opening scene, though, and this one can be watched as a standalone episode just fine.

Detective Frank Sheen can’t be any more stereotypical if he had come with a mustache, trench coat, foul attitude, cigarette, and alcoholism… oh wait, he has all that. He is tasked to investigate what seems like a haunted monastery, and really, he just wants to close the case and goes back to drinking or doing whatever else that makes him happy.

Of course, someone like Frank has his own inner demons, demons that emerge as the episode progresses. There is also a sexy nun with a funky accent, one that reminds him of someone in his past, because come on, this is The Hitchhiker and assembling tropes into an episode is what it does halfway well.

The script of this episode was apparently still being written as the episode was filmed, which probably explains how aimless it feels. Most of the episode sees Tom Skerritt’s character wandering around hallways and such until he is assaulted by shaky cam.

Indeed, the only reason Frank ends up the way he is eventually is because his refusal to believe in ghosts also means that he will handily accept clearly outlandish scenarios with a shrug, when any sane person would have nope’d the hell out of dodge.

Mr Skerritt tries to elevate his character but it’s hard to do that when his character just wandering around like a dolt when he’s not yelling and reeling from shaky cam attack.

Oh, and no nudity, and there’s a fade to black sex scene. So, is there a reason to watch this thing aside from admiring Mr Skeritt’s mustache? Actually, I can’t think of any. So much for keeping the faith, I guess.
