Meet Katya, the heroine of Kim Knox’s Lost Gods. When this opens, she regains consciousness but she has no idea what has happened to her. She can’t remember much of her past either. The man whom she meets when she comes to, James Kinsare, tells her that she is an “environmental geneticist” who was famous for her achievements until she ended up frozen on an asteroid for thirty years or so. The thing is, it isn’t long before the two of them are being chased by what appears to be the bad guy, but can Katya trust James to tell the truth? What is going on here?

Like most of the authors’ stories that I’ve read, this one has interesting ideas and concepts. I could enjoy this story more… if the author hasn’t decided to spice up her story by inserting scenes of sexual nature at the most bizarre moments. When Katya regains consciousness at the start of the story, she’s already lusting after James. Now, I understand that someone in her shoes may want to make up for lost time, but she’s… fast. Very fast. We’re talking about “flip a few pages and oh my, they’re already doing it!” kind of fast.

Let’s just say that it is hard to take this story seriously when Katya seems more concerned about dropping her clothes and having sex than to make sense of what is going on around her. It’s too bad that Ms Knox couldn’t seem to make up her mind whether this story is a cheesy T&A sex romp or a sober futuristic thriller, because it would have been good if she has picked one path and stayed with it throughout the entire tale.
