Main cast: Jeff Conaway (Phil), Mary Cadorette (Sherrie), and TJ Castronovo (Joe)
Director: Greg Cannom
Two miners Phil and Joe are discussing overtime with their supervisor Sherrie when they stumble upon the body of a fellow miner danging over an opening in the wall, all burned up. All thoughts of calling the police turn to greed, however, when they discover there is gold at the other side of the opening. Thing is, the gold is a bait set by a troll to lure in victims for it to burn into crisp with its paws…
I know, the whole thing sounds so dumb. A troll just set up shop in a cave that may or may not be come across by people? What does it do in its free time?
Still, the entire episode is unexpectedly watchable. The pacing is solid, and the discount Chewbacca of a troll is actually menacing. As a basic encounter-with-a-monster affair, Fools’ Gold is straightforward and serviceable. I won’t remember anything about it, but it will do, I suppose. There’s nothing else I can say about this episode, because it’s exactly what it says on the box: watch, nod, switch off, the end.
