A sequel to A Predator’s Obsession, A Predator Returns brings back Bruce Kane, the psychotic young man that had become fixated on two different young ladies in the past, and killed those that stood in the way of him and her being together. Well, will third time be the charm for him?

This time around, he’s assumed a new identity, David Burke, and squats at a lighthouse while feeding his beloved sharks around the place. What does he do for a living? Well, his parents are loaded, so despite that he’s a refugee from the law, I suppose he must still be getting money from his parent, singular this time because his father is announced to have passed on at the beginning of this movie.

At any rate, we have the usual bunch of teens going to the lighthouse where he’s squatting to share scary stories. No, that’s not an euphemism for sex or drugs or anything fun: these kids really do tell scary stories. Courtney, the lucky lady, gets nearly eaten by CGI sharks until “David” shows up to rescue her.

Courtney, who is in her surly teenager phase, is pressured by her mother Erica to go for an internship while she’s applying for college, to improve her chances of getting a scholarship. Well, why not get intern-ed by the hot guy that has saved her and is all charming and sweet in the process, right?

Unfortunately for Bruce, things don’t go so well with Courtney’s parents, so it’s not long before she and he are not likely to have a happily ever after. Ah, but these two do the naughty before their relationship hits the skids, and now our heroine is, yup, pregnant. There’s an “internal” and “intern” joke in there somewhere, but I’m too tasteful to make it.

Bruce has previously hacked into her phone to plant a tracker, so he is elated when he eavesdrops and discovers that he’s going to be a father. This time, nothing and no one will come between him and his beloved!

I feel bad for Houston Stevenson while watching this one, because he’s the only one that seems to be trying here. His character may be a whackjob, but at least he’s not a walking mannequin like the rest of the cast members. I believe I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: Bruce Kane could have been a memorable hot psycho if the script had been better and the other cast members didn’t just phone in because they were resigned to having their careers die in Lifetime hell.

Sadly, the novelty of a hot psycho guy that has an affinity for sharks is gone because this movie is a rehash of the previous movie, only with less interesting kills and overall worse performances, script… everything really. I’d think they’d ramp up the melodrama by having more sharks killing Bruce’s victims or something, but instead there is way more boring soap opera prattling here than actual shark attacks.

All in all, A Predator Returns is everything a sequel shouldn’t be: duller, inferior, and more forgettable. Mr Stevenson shows more skin here than in previous movies, although it’s nothing to get excited over, so I suppose there’s that. Wake me up when someone does a proper thriller worthy of Bruce Kane.
