Midnight in Ruby Bayou by Elizabeth Lowell
This one comes alive only when the author is giving information dump on ruby craftsmanship. Everything else is just okay.

Despite a dunderhead hero and a very flawed suspense plot, the story ends up being an addictive read.

From that book to this thing? What happened?

This island must be in hell.

This is a case of the author trying too hard to be edgy and hip, only to end up pretentious as hell.

The romance is good, but the suspense is a flop.

Not sure what is going on here, and I can’t bring myself to care.

Yes, let’s make fools out of old people for everyone’s amusement! Laugh, people, laugh!

Why can’t this be about boinking brothers?

Same old stuff from the author – you will know what you get before even opening the book.
