Mark SR Peterson’s I Zone is about infected—that’s what the I in the title stands for—zombie deer attacking three teenagers and their father when they decide to go shoot some deer during hunting season.
Oh, don’t worry, this isn’t some overt anti-gun rant pretending to be a story. It’s a no-nonsense zombie story, and it’s alright.
Well, until things are getting good and then the author does a time skip and completely kills the momentum building up in the story up to that point. The subsequent scene isn’t as interesting, and I end up feeling that I’m reading the first and last chapter of a much longer story. I want that longer story, damn it!
Some stories have fade to black sex scenes, and this one has what is akin to fade to black scary scenes.
Whatever this is, it’s not enough to even tickle my fancy a little. The story has a lot of promise, it’s just that the author is for some reason so coy about going all the way. Stop being a tease and just show me the goods!
