You'll Always Be Mine (1997)

Main cast: OV Daniels, Arthur Edwards, Diana Pappas (Jenny), Cameron Hadley Taylor, Rodney Williams, and Rip Torn (Narrator)
Director: Greg Francis

Police detective Dave and his partner Kate finally manage to corner the deranged stalker of Jenny at the opening of You’ll Always Be Mine, only to lose the villain when the fellow jumps to his death. Still, all is good, right, and everyone can move on again? Well, Jenny continues to call Dave, claiming that she is still being stalked by the dead fellow. Kate believes that the woman just likes to play the victim, and Dave allows himself to be talked out of visiting Jenny in order to tend to another case. Oops, Jenny turns out dead.

The guilt-stricken Dave knows no rest, though, when the now-dead Jenny keeps calling him hysterically, screaming that she’s being threatened by her stalker.

Seriously, this episode could have been poignant and even moving, but the entire execution is botched. Jenny is, I’m sad to say, on the moron side, as she basically just sits there and screams hysterically into the phone when she’s supposed to be threatened by her dead stalker. What, she can’t run out for help? It’s the same when she’s dead—she still needs to scream at Dave to come save her, I guess from her dead stalker in ghost land, like that will really help her. She can’t get some ghost cops to help her?

At the end of the day, this is a tragic episode about how a man literally has to give everything up in his life just to help an imbecile victim of a woman that apparently can’t do anything other than to scream for some big, strong man to come help her from everything. Call me cruel, but I’m kind of glad that the useless waste of flesh with a most nerve-grating voice is dead. Seriously, she’s dead already, what can the stalker do to her anyway? Dead dead her?

The real tragedy here is that she has to take down Dave with her. At any rate, let this episode be a morality tale of what happens when men unknowingly play the knight in shining armor for women that can’t see themselves as anything other than a perpetual victim. Don’t tangle with such pathetic wretches—they will suck the life out of any man foolish enough to come to their aid!
