Sci-fi Romance, 2010

In Rebecca Royce’s Yes, Captain, we have this spaceship called the Instigator. The captain, Acton, however, is MIA and deemed dead. Only Lizbeth, who has been carrying a torch for Acton, is convinced that Acton is still out there. When the story opens, she has managed to locate Anton. Only, he has no memories of his time as the captain of the Instigator. As far as he is concerned, he’s Charles Roswell, an attorney living in New York City. Well, there’s nothing an abduction and some sexy alien sex can’t fix. Men, humans or not, aren’t that complicated.

Yes, Captain is one of those thanklessly short stories that do not showcase the author’s capabilities clearly. On the bright side, this one is well-paced and there is a satisfying feeling of closure by the last page. However, the villain is utterly predictable and the story never really takes off due to its short length. The best thing I can say about this story is that it is a quick, painless, and easy read, providing some decent entertainment for a short while. But I’d be hard pressed to remember much of this story once I’m done with it.
