The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas (2000)

Main cast: Mark Addy (Fred Flintstone), Stephen Baldwin (Barney Rubble), Jane Krakowski (Betty O’Shale), Kristen Johnston (Wilma Slaghoople), Alan Cumming (The Great Gazoo/Mick Jagged), Joan Collins (Pearl Slaghoople), Thomas Gibson (Chip Rockefeller), and Harvey Korman (Colonel Slaghoople)
Director: Brian Levant

I always pity Wilma and Betty when I was younger, because even then I was old enough to realize that Barney and Fred are losers of the nth degree. What is a smart woman like Wilma doing with a lazy, dumb-dumb Fred I will never know. In this movie, Wilma dumps smart, suave, and wicked Chip for stupid, flat, boring Fred. I rest my case. Like Gazoo would say, dumb dumbs, all of them.

The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas has some great ideas, but the whole execution is crap due to the really obnoxious leading men. Can Fred and Barney be any more boring? They make Homer Simpson look like the catch of the day.

This story tells of how Wilma and Fred and Betty and Barney meet. Wilma is a very rich girl who one days runs away to mingle with the normal people. She ends up housing with Betty, and they meet the two losers. Sparks fly, but will Chip, who wants Wilma’s money, spoil the day?

I’m hoping. Me, I would kick Fred out and jump into Chip’s… er, arms anytime. Thomas Gibson could sure reek class and sex appeal even when he’s playing slime. Joan Collins’s evil mom is simply wonderful, while Jane Krakowski and Kristen Johnston play their roles admirably. (I wish I look as good as Ms Krakowski in skimpy blue curtain dress, I tell you.)

Alan Cummings is fun too as Gazoo and Mick Jagged, who would challenge Barney for Betty. Again, stupid Betty dumps fun, sexy Jagged for dumb Barney. Dumb dumbs.

The whole story is silly, boring, trite, dull – the list of negative adjectives do go on and on. When villains kick the smelly stuff out of the colorless main leads, when I walk out of the theater more convinced than ever that Wilma and Betty are making big mistakes marrying the two dumb dumbs, this movie is definitely casualty city.
