Main cast: Emily O’Brien (Spider Rose), Feodor Chin (Jade Prime), Piotr Michael (The Investor), and Sumalee Montano (Little Nose for Profits)
Director: Jennifer Yuh Nelson
Spider Rose is linked to Swarm, because both were loosely adapted from author Bruce Sterling’s works.
Instead of shoveling philosophical yammering down my throat this time, this episode focuses more on the theme of revenge and the emptiness it causes, as the woman known as Spider Rose attempts to assassinate the Jade Prime as payback for killing her husband.
In the meantime, she bonds with a pet, which will eat anything and everything. Throughout it all, she will learn to experience emotions again, la di da, the usual.
It’s a pretty episode, but it reuses the models from Swarm, making me wonder just how much the budget had been cut for this season.
The story isn’t very substantial or memorable, although that pet thing is cute, I’d give it that, and the whole thing is all style but little substance. The whole episode gives me the feel of a polished video game cut scene that doesn’t have much in terms of gameplay or anything else. Once I’ve seen the cutscenes, what else is there?
It’s the same with this episode. What else is there?
