Historical Erotica, 2010

The man currently known as Reverend St John Eyre Rivers embarks on one more con once he is released from prison. His accomplice and lover, currently taking on the identity of Diana Rivers, plays his sister. She is determined that this is their last one hurrah. At 30, Diana is tired of the danger and the excitement. If she has to leave him after this, so be it.

But all that will come later. Right now, they have to focus on their job. Their target is the mistress of Thornfield Hall. A reclusive woman who lost her husband in a fire the night before her wedding, she seems like the perfect target for these experienced swindlers. Jane Eyre is rich, but shunned by her neighbors for not knowing her place as a woman. At 20, she seems ripe for the plucking. But little do her new “long-lost, now found cousins” realize that things are not what they seem to be in Thornfield Hall. For example, Edward Rochester is still alive, but imprisoned as Jane’s bound sex slave in the battlements.

Oh, I don’t know what to say about Reader, I Married Him. It’s a deliciously perverse slice of erotica, full of naughty things that you won’t typically find in a mainstream romance story, but it also has some unexpectedly heartwarming moments. One thing that may make this one a difficult read for some readers is the absence of black and white morality. I have no problem with this, but you should remember, we have a pair of swindlers here along with a woman who locks up her husband who deigned to trick her into a false marriage. Two of them find a more concrete happy ending while the remaining two have a more loose-ended ending, and nobody gets punished at the end of the day.

Very hot, very entertaining, and a most adorable perversion of the Jane Eyre story with a few emotional scenes that actually make an impact, Reader, I Married Him is just too much fun.
