I normally don’t review SPM model test paper books, but I will make an exception for Kertas Model SPM: Pendidikan Moral from Sasbadi because of one thing:

It contains actual tips, dos, and don’ts of how to answer that paper.

You NEED the Content Here If You’re Sitting for That Dumb Paper and Want to Do at Least Halfway Okay

Yes, this cheap little book contains the precious information that is much needed but curiously missing from Pendidikan Moral or Moral Education reference books from Pan Asia Publishing and Penerbit Ilmu Bakti.

This is great because the actual paper is closed and actual past year questions are never made available, so unless the candidate knows someone that are in the loop with, uh, the right people, then the candidate will be walking in blind unless they read the information in this book.

They will learn that:

  • The structured questions can be quite lenient in that many will accept sensible answers that do not deviate from acceptable normal behavior as dictated by the syllabus. One can agree or disagree, so long as the justification is within reason. Fortunately, this part makes up 50% of the total score, so passing this paper isn’t as impossible as one may think!
  • The bad news is that only the first section of the essay questions accepts any sensible answer. The sections (b) and (c), the more “expensive” parts of each question, will only accept answers that are within the marking scheme. This is where the guessing game comes in.

Fortunately, this book also contains information on:

  • The number of key points to include in an answer based on the marks accorded to that section of the question.
  • How to structure your answers correctly to avoid being penalized by the often illogical marking scheme. For example, if you state “Samy is a responsible student” it’s a no go, but if you state “Samy finishes the homework given by his teacher with determination and dedication” then it’s a go even when both sentences kind of mean the same thing.
  • The other kinds of answers that, on the surface, seem reasonable but will actually be considered a no go based on the marking scheme, and how to word things around to make those answers acceptable based on the marking scheme.
  • How the painful 8-mark essay question parts are marked, the kind of answers that will count, so that one doesn’t have to write a thesis and pray that some of the points will somehow land.
  • How to include the nilai-nilai universal requested by the question into the answer, and how the correct values can net an easy 2 out of the allocated 8 marks.

Seriously, after reading this section, everything starts to feel less confusing and the candidate will feel more in control of their destiny, especially after trying out the model SPM test papers here and perhaps in some other model test paper books as well.

Therefore, get this little and very affordable book if it is the only SPM Pendidikan Moral book that the candidate chooses to have. It’s also an inexpensive and even essential complement to other SPM Pendidikan Moral reference books they already have, because the information in this book is the only one available at the moment that helps the candidate make some sense in an otherwise incomprehensible paper.

TL; DR

If you are sitting for the SPM Pendidikan Moral paper, this book is at the very least a must-look.
