We've Got The Bookbug!

Back in 1999, when I first started the website, website awards were a way for both Big Serious Award People and individual webowners to show appreciation to websites that caught their fancy. Some awards were easy to obtain - just ask nicely - while others needed some excruciating application process that involved correct punctuation, mentions of the correct secret password, and more.

For this website, the The Bookbug's Award for Excellent Web Sites will always be special. Not only because it was the first award received by this website, it was also because it was given by June, the webmaster of one of the biggest romance websites of that time, Bookbug on the Web. The website was a labor of love, featuring reviews, interviews, and such, and it predated the current more sophisticated second generation websites today.

More significantly, the award came with a show of support and encouragement from June when I was just starting out with my adventures on the Web. Our websites couldn't be any more different - hers was more friendly and nice, while mine was full of caustic humor and sarcasm. She ran one of the most popular and adored websites, while mine was more infamous than anything else, heh. So, I was quite surprised when she turned out to be very supportive and encouraging of my initial awful efforts. And I would always appreciate that.

The website is no longer present in its original incarnation. It had long been abandoned before Yahoo! closed Geocities, and now, the website could be found archived in Oocities. You can visit Bookbug on the Web here (opens in a new window).
